Indications/Uses
Treatment of viral infections due to herpes simplex virus (type 1 & 2) & varicella-zoster virus (zoster & chicken pox).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Primary herpes simplex infections 200 mg 5 times daily for 5-10 days. Suppression of recurrent herpes simplex 200 mg 5 times daily for up to 6-12 mth. Varicella-zoster virus infections 800 mg 5 times daily for 7-10 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness, headache, anorexia, fatigue, skin rash, oedema, leg pain.
Drug Interactions
Zidovudine, probenecid, ketoconazole, interferon.
